In less than a decade, the UAE passport went from 88th in the world to first. That trajectory says everything about where this country is heading.

The UAE passport has reached a record score of 182 on the Passport Index by Arton Capital — the highest score ever recorded in the index’s history — retaining its position as the world’s most powerful passport for the seventh consecutive year.

For Emirati citizens, that translates to visa-free access to 127 destinations, 45 countries offering visa on arrival, and 10 accessible via electronic travel authorisation. Only 16 destinations in the world require a visa. The passport’s global reach now stands at 91 per cent.

A Transformation Built in Under a Decade

The numbers become even more striking in context. In 2017, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the UAE Passport Force Initiative. At that point, the passport ranked 88th globally. Today it sits at number one — a climb of 87 positions achieved through sustained diplomacy, bilateral agreements, and a deliberate national strategy to expand global mobility.

Arton Capital noted that this growth comes at a time when many countries are experiencing stagnation or outright decline in visa-free access. The UAE is moving in the opposite direction.

What This Means Beyond Travel

Passport strength is not just a travel convenience — it is a direct reflection of a country’s international standing, diplomatic relationships, and the trust the global community places in its citizens and institutions.

For investors and residents considering long-term commitment to the UAE, this ranking is a meaningful signal. A country whose passport has risen from 88th to 1st in under ten years, and whose citizens can access 91 per cent of the world without prior visa arrangements, is a country that is actively building and deepening its place in the global order.

That kind of diplomatic momentum does not happen in isolation. It runs parallel to the economic policy, infrastructure investment, and governance frameworks that have made the UAE one of the most compelling destinations in the world for both capital and talent.

The Ranking Is a Reflection, Not Just a Trophy

The UAE passport topping the global index for seven consecutive years is not an achievement that exists on its own. It is a consequence of everything being built here — and a reason, for many, that choosing the UAE as a place to live, invest, and build a future continues to make more sense each year.
